    Every single problem this guy has/had I have. He nails it. I had an acoustic shock incident 5 weeks ago and I am waring earplugs all the time now as it gave me hyperacusis, tinnitus, ear fullness, slight muffling, and jaw ache. It is like I have a marble in my ear. I came to the same realism only today that I may be doing this to myself, and this guy has said the same thing. I am terrified of any loud noise, sirens, babies/toddlers screams, etc. I have tried to keep headphones around my neck (ready to protect my ears when needed) when I go to supermarkets but it is like a military operation, if I hear a noisy kid in the next aisle or nearby my hands shake as I desperately try and get my headphones on as fast as possible. I have to get out of this rut. Did this guy make a full recovery in the end ?

      Hey my friend, I will be posting up a new vid in the next couple of days. I am indeed doing much much better. It took a long while with many ups and downs and some very hard times. Hang in there. I know what you are going through, and it Will get better. Have you seen a doc and gotten a round of oral steroids? And a good audiologist who is familiar with hyperacusis--If not please do that. Always think in terms of inflammation, it's the key. Second think in terms of re normalizing. Those super hard to tolerate sounds are not going to harm you and you are essentially retraining your neurological system while you wait for the persistent inflammation to go down. I promise you it will get better,but it takes time and patience and it sucks. Don't throw the ear plugs away but just start to use them less and less in normal situations. Another very good thing is stay very hydrated and get a foam roller and use it to stretch your back, and shoulder/neck area so that you can really relax your neck and feel when it is tight. Consistency is really important, as well as relaxation. Pay attention to your jaw, anxiousness makes us tense our jaw up and leads to that inflammation in the ear canal. If you are using nsiads(ibuprofen,aspirin etc...) always take with food, you don't need an ulcer to go with this. Feel free to ask anything, if I can help I will, Todd

    I appreciate your vid, my dude. I've been doing a lot of research myself on these issues, and everything you say is truth. I do want to recommend that those of us that have over-protected a little too long might need some help with the anxiety, whether that be through CBT, meditation, or anything else that helps drive home the point that "These sounds are not hurting you." It's tough to let go of the earplugs when you've been doing it for so long.

      @@teachingbeats Todd, I have had tinnitus and some hearing loss for 12 years, but everything got old for me. After the MRI in the fall of 2023, I felt much worse, my tinnitus became reactive. They react to almost any sounds, I can’t stop them, every day the situation is getting worse. That is, due to surrounding sounds, my tinnitus increases in both ears. There are 10-15 of them in each ear and they become increasingly high-frequency. Todd, please help me in this situation. Advise me what to do, I understand that you had hyperacusis pain, but it’s probably something similar.... I visited several audiologists but found nothing wrong with my ears other than hearing loss. I feel like I'm on the edge, I probably don't have long left..Sincerely, Denis

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats 6 місяців тому

      Dennis- very sorry to hear about your situation. I have pretty severe tinnitus also and have for many many years. Mine varies from day to day. The tinnitus is caused by your brain "filling in the hole" from hearing loss in those particular areas. One thing that has worked for me in particularly bad times is listening to a test tone sweep through the hearing range. You can find them on youtube. You want to be careful about volume as the high ranges can get loud fast. But, when I listen to them a couple of times it helps my tinnitus to calm down. There are also hearing aids now that have tinnitus masking white noise, thst could be another option. I am not a doctor and these are just the things that have helped me. The last thing that has helped me is meditation to learn how to take my focus away from the tinnitus. I recommend the waking up app, and if you are feeling depressed and like you need help in just dealing with the entire situation seeking out a good therapist is always extremely helpful as well going to an emergency department if you feel you need emergent help to stay safe. I turly wish you the best of luck.

      @@teachingbeats Thanks for the valuable advice, Todd. Todd. The thing is that I can hardly listen to anything, as soon as I listen to the murmur of water, I quickly begin to experience a burst of high-pitched tintintus that cuts like sharp knives. All this started for me after I had an MRI in the fall of 2023. In our country there is no treatment for my illness; no one here treats it. I called an ambulance several times, they don't know what to do. The only way out is to train your ears, give them sounds. But the problem is that I can’t find the right moment to start training them, I don’t even know how to start training them... I tried different things, listened to music at minimum volume, and also listened to the murmur of water in the fountain, but This all made me worse. I don’t understand why and I don’t know what to do... Maybe you can help me somehow? I won’t be in debt, I’ll pay you money. Maybe I have just the case when I don’t need to give my ears sounds, but I need to leave them in silence? But it seems to me that this may completely atrophy my ears...

      @B-qz9fo well, I don't know how old you are but, there is almost always more damage that can be done and more life that you have and want to preserve what is available. It sounds to me like you need to truly stop any overly loud noise, music etc and let everything rest for a long while. Also, if you have not already, you need to find an audiologist who can do a very thorough exam. This way you are starting your rehab from a place where you have solid information. It's always hard to seek out something that you feel will be bad news but in this case it is so worth it.

    Did you have any issues with your Eustachian Tube as far as crackling/popping sounds when you swallow or soap suds popping sounds?🧼 which decongested did you take? Or nasal rinses? ENT scoped me and said it’s not my ET but my ears seemed very congested and have that soap subs popping sounds as well as crackling etc, it’s annoying and very discouraging/depressing to be honest.

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats 9 місяців тому

      Yes, I had very much the same thing, my ears when I pooped them work actually make a squeeling sound. I did do netty pot type saline rinses, and any decongestant should be fine like Sudafe or you could also try Flonase...and keep pooping your ears many times a day to keep that whole system moving. Small steps forward. Mine took months to get back to normal, now when I pop my ears they equalize right away just like in the past, but again it took a lot of time and patience while doing things that can move it in the right direction.

  • @blancacasillas8226

    Did you have any muffled hearing or like congestion ears, if so how long did it take to clear and what did you do?

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats 9 місяців тому

      Hi- yes. I did and sometimes still do. I believe that too is part of the cycle of inflammation. Can you "pop" your ears and then do they really equalize pressure? If not, even more reason to follow the inflammatory idea. It took mine quite a long time to get back to normal. In the mean time I tried using decongestants as they tend to "dry" out fluids that may be in your inner ear, and you can also test the idea by trying nsaids, in my case Ibuprofen. Always take with food and I usually tried a course of about a week on week off, just to give my system a break. As my overall inflammation went down my feeling of fluid and or muffled sound with my hearing slowly improved. I also got in the habit of popping my ears often through the day to keep that system of equalization moving... As always this is only what I found to be helpful and it is not a recipe for anyone to exactly follow. You have to be your own best judge on what gives you improvement. Lastly have you seen an audiologist. If not please do that right away to rule out any obvious infection, mechanical issues and to get a baseline of where you are at.

    Hey! I also live in Colorado, been an RN for a while and also developed Hyperacusis and Tinnitus 😭😞. Unfortunately, I am having a hard time with tinnitus mentally (depressed & anxiety) cannot wrap around the fact that will have to live with this for the rest of my life 😩. My tinnitus + hyperacusis started with muffled left ear (after I stuck my pinky finger to scratch my itch). My tinnitus is a bilateral static noise with some humming noise. My hyperacusis is slowly going away but not my dysucusis hasn’t gone away - whats your thoughts about habituate from tinnitus…it’s my only hope or sound therapy etc?

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats Рік тому

      Hi- thanks for writing. I have had tinnitus for most of my life, so that is less of an issue for me. I have learned to notice what makes it better and worse...caffeine definitely can make it worse and having "noise" around like a fan when sleeping can be good, while something a little too loud can make it much worse...it has been 9 months since my hyperacusis/dysacusis started and it has slowy gotten much better, so don't give up hope...being around "normal" life noises without hearing protection has helped me to habituate a lot, but it is for sure full of ups and downs. The other thing to make sure of is to absolutely go see a good audiologist familiar with these issues- as I said in my vids mine in Longmont at the tinnitus treatment place is fantastic. This can inform you where your hearing level is and just give you a well rounded understanding of what you have going...the depression and anxiety from these issues is normal and you must try to do something to give yourself a positive...as I said in my last vid, working out both makes you feel better and gets blood moving to your inner ear...given thst your issue stated by itching your ear, you really need to get looked at to make sure something else isn't going on thst is at the root of the issue. Hang in there, treat yourself well and remember thst it can get better as mine has but it is a slow process. Let me know how you are doing. Todd

      Hey Todd, 6 months in with this hell of tinnitus & hyperacusis. Unfortunately I keep going through all these changes that make my anxiety spike back up again like fluttering (spasming) sounds in my left ear which has gone away……. Praying it won’t come back since it’s been a month, but now recently been hearing distorted sounds like the airplane after rumble sound afterwards when it passes when am in the shower or when am outside kinda like a background sound. And now left ear pressure with clicking sound and sometimes feels muffled- and it’s doesn’t help living in Colorado with high elevation. Strangely I feel more comfortable (less anxiety) with my tinnitus (static noise) than with all my other issues I’ve mentioned which scare the crap out of me and get me more depressed cause scared shitless it won’t get better and ENT don’t know crap about it. Todd my questions are the following; did you have distorted hearing, if so how so? You had mentioned you had pressure w/clicking sounds but was it ever muffled hearing at times? And how about muscle spasming/fluttering? Lastly if you don’t mind me asking a more personal question how were you able to handle your anxiety/depression if you had any besides meditation? Have any of these gone away or improved? And what have your ENT recommended for any of them? And how are you doing overall? Sorry, for all the questions but UCHealth ENT specialist have been unless as they don’t know nothing and just rush my appointment to move on to the next. 😞

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats Рік тому

      Hey Greg, I would say yes. First find an ent or a audiologist who specializes in tinnitus/hyperacusis and get a really thorough exam and testing like I did. At the early stage you don't want to continue to do anything that may possibly damage your hearing more before you can get a very good handle on what is happening. Also you want to give your entire hearing "system" some rest as far as big explosive sounds like what happen in drumming...to get your fix of playing, I suggest picking up some brushes and go down the deep hole of learning about playing brushes for a while. It feels good and it is much much quieter. These days I am playing, but much less and I've adapted my drum setup to use brushes about 95% of the time. It's not the same but has kept me playing and keeps my musical output alive. Good luck!

      There are a lot of factors I think...where is your hearing at(audiologist)? Are you wearing hearing protection(if not, definitely start). How's your monitoring situation? Wedges, in ear etc...and how does it feel afterwards? The hardest part, I think, is to be stone cold honest with yourself about all of those things and then make the right decision...knowing no matter what, suffering with hyperacusis and hearing loss is not something that you want to get worse and worse.

      Hey Victor - I am really sorry to hear what a terrible time you are having. Let me just share a few ideas Have you seen an ENT or audiologist? If not try hard to find a good one who can make sure nothing else is going on. How long have you had this for? What caused it. As I have said in my videos mine has been very bad at times and then at other times it would be much better. In my case I believe this had to do with inflammation of the inner ear, inner ear muscles and surrounding parts...it took a long time for that to relax and feel better. In the mean time I still believe that using ear plugs as little as possible is the best track to be on as it will allow your hearing to get back to as normal of a place as possible. Try hard to not isolate yourself as this will just lead you to feel even worse and not have contact with people. You are not alone here and I understand how completely crazy this can make you, just take it one day at a time my friend.

I know how hard it can be, hang in there brother. I don't know where your at but I can tell you I found an amazing audiologist in Longmont Coloroad- Dr. Demars at the Longmont hearing and tinnitus center. @@teachingbeats Hey man thank you for replying, I'm gonna try not to use plugs all the time from now on and as you said protect them in situations that are necessary. And yes it very rough because like you I'm also an artist and I produce music and I have not been making music for a long time because of this and I really miss it but I just wanna protect my ears. But I live in Denmark and I'm gonna look into seeing a audiologist who can help me. But I'm happy that you have found success with it brother, I wish you more in the future! Looking forward to your next post.

      @@davidalexander5407 Denmark! I completely understand how hard it is to not make music...I just started getting back to it. I will never mix another song again, and at the the very least not wear headphones...but I feel like there are work arounds9 for everything and you can still be safe. I think that the main thing is finding a way to progressively get yourself back to being ok with normal sounds...one way I progressed was occasionally using the type of plugs that have filters or different types of attenuation, I would use these in the car or mountain biking when it was windy. I stay away from the foam plugs(that I love) unless I know the levels are harmful. Just don't lose faith, I have bad days and good but way way better than the days of just wearing plugs all day and staying inside...reassure yourself that normal volume is normal volume and you are ok and not doing harm. My breakthrough moment was in a loud restaurant. I thought I was going tonhave a panic attack and run out the door...I stayed and the next day I felt my hearing seemed more normalized. Now I have gotten used to the idea that sometimes these things will stress me out and I just have to relax, when I do, I eventually kind of forget about my hearing and fall more into the moment... say hi to Denmark for me and enjoy your day!

    Bass drum is tuned loose?

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats Рік тому

      Not very loose and honestly for me it's more about the beater tension and where it feels comfortable so that you can relax and do the motion easily...so, just find that spot for you, experiment. Good luck!

    • @fraesse82
      @fraesse82 Рік тому

      @@teachingbeats I’ve just started to learn the motion but I feel too much stress on the hip flexor. Do you have any advice? Many thanks

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats Рік тому

      @@fraesse82 yeah that definitely happens at the beginning, mostly because you are not yet fluid in the motion and not used to the upstroke part of it, so your hip gets a workout. Try to relax, think of it like a Molar method stroke that you do with your hand and try to let the upstroke happen naturally and when you tighten up think more about the relaxing part of the downstroke...as you get better it becomes one motion and not two...don't force it, it took me a long time to become fluid with it and you'll find that you will develop Your own technique out of it and that's totally cool. Never get too caught up in exact...focus on what can make it usable for you because that's what really matters. Feel free to ask more. I love that you're working on it...just work it 20 mins a day, it'll all happen!

    Really great explanation to the technique and guidance in pedal settings for the initial exercises for beginners. I've been playing for almost 20 years and have always wanted to learn this but I have an incredibly hard time with the downstroke.

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats Рік тому

      Thanks man! I would think of the downstroke at the start as a full foot drop that kind of rolls from the ball of your foot back to your heal...as it becomes smoother it will be a lighter action...but remember to just go nice and slow for quite a while to get the motion and muscle memory solid, it takes a while to get it to a place thst you don't have to think about it. Good Luck!

    • @NecroticFleshrot
      @NecroticFleshrot Рік тому

      @@teachingbeats very helpful, thank you! My issue is that I cant get the pedal to do anything on the downstroke. I'm going to readjust my tension and angle as you've recommended and see if that helps me.

    • @teachingbeats
      @teachingbeats Рік тому

      Yeah, go loose with tension at first, then as you get the motion to happen you will find the normal power on the downs troke will happen...relax, enjoy the process and goes easy on yourself. You will get there!

    that's probably the best tutorial on UA-cam. jojo mayer would sign this. idk why most ppl doing bass tutorials don't put their camera right beside the pedal like u did so you can actually see the foot movements. thx man very well explained!

    I'm 47 and only started learning drums 2 years ago to help me mentally escape from all the Rona madness. One thing that I find difficult is staying off all those UA-cam videos being constantly thrown at me along the lines of "Ten beginner fills you MUST KNOW!", "Stop playing like that, play like this" and "If you don't know these basic grooves YOU WILL FAIL" haha.. It's total overload and does my head in. Drumeo has a lot to answer for! lol
